This Christmas Eve morning sermon addresses the reality of the birth of Jesus. This truth is confused sometimes by the many "fantasy" characters like "Frosty," "Rudolph," "Snoopy," and others. Jesus' birth in a manger made him accesssible to everyone even including the lowly shepherds. The sermon focuses on the "manger scene" and suggests that just as the manger was actually a feeding place, Jesus continues to nourish our spirits even today if we'll feast on him by faith with thanksgiving. that feasting is symbolized in the italian word "manga" which means to eat. This is the Christmas Cantata sung by the chancel choir of the Seaview Baptist Church on Sunday, Dec. 17th, 2006.
"The Winter Rose" was directed by Linda Wheatley and played by Paula Dollarhide at the organ, with Geoffrey Wheatley doing the narration. The presentation included images of roses in various stages of growth during the winter season which were projected on the screen above the choir to enhance the metaphor depicted in the music. This sermon from Dec. 10th is by Rev. Dr. Vernl Mattson, area minister of ABCNJ. He speaks from Acts 2:42-45 about the practices of the early church which lead to it's sustained growth. He relates ways churches are growing today and the 7 marks of a healthy congregation. This service was followed by a luncheon and a survey to measure how we perceive our congregational health and faithfulness. The results of the survey will inform our next steps as a church toward better faithfulness and health in 2007. (Click here) http://www.seaviewbaptist.com/podcast/20061210.mp3

This sermon for the first Sunday in Advent is about Advent itself. The season of anticipation and expectation that leads to joyous celebration at Christmas. The text is from Isaiah 11:1-10, the prophet's vision of a time of harmony in creation and the rule of a King of Righteousness and Justice. The sermon explores things we anticipate in life and look forward to and then, considers how we who follow Jesus should be celebrating this "Advent" season knowing what is coming. That is, God's blessings in Christ. (click here) http://www.seaviewbaptist.com/podcast/20061203.mp3
