This week's sermon "A Firm Grip" is based on Hebrews 10:19-26. The author reminds the readers (and us) that we must continue to: 1) Hold unswervingly to the hope we profess; 2) Consider how we may spur one another on to acts of love and good deeds; 3) to not give up meeting together; and 4) to encourage one another in the faith. And he indicates that we are to do all these things because "He who promised is faithful." We live in a world and culture that denies much of what the Church stands for in our society. We need encouragers and are called to be encouragers. The Truth is that the "meetings" we plan and hold are all designed to "encourage" those who attend in their faithfulness. This sermon is based on the text from Nehemiah 8:1-12, the celebration of the completion of the rebuilding of the Temple and the reading of the Books of the Law. Nehemiah called the people to put away mourning and grief over their having disappointed God, and to allow the "Joy of the Lord to Be their Strength." This sermon is ultimately about joy and celebration by the believer because of the amazing nature of the God we worship. There was a 2 minute video shown during the sermon of people celebrating in various ways after sinking difficult putts on the golf course. You won't be able to see the video clip, but you can enjoy the music playing in the background while the video was showing. (click here) http://www.seaviewbaptist.com/podcast/20061119.mp3

This sermon is by guest speaker Mr. Bill Southrey, director of the Atlantic City Rescue Mission. Bill shares stories of the work the Mission is doing to rebuild lives with the power of the Gospel. The mission has been serving the Lord for 42 years. Bill says it's "3 hots and a cot" but rather "soup soap and hope." He says, "It's a place of beginnings not endings," "It's not where you end up, but where you start your life again." Seaview Baptist contines to support the mission financially as well as with volunteers. This sermon from Luke 15 reflects Jesus' words of hope for the lost. This sermon is based on Mark 10:46-52, the story of Bartimaues' healing from blindness. It speaks to the reality that true vision includes following Jesus. Jesus' question of him is also asked of us today, "What do you want me to do for you?" The reality is that if we want God to do something for us to bring about change in our lives, we're going to undergo some adjustments in our behavior and beliefs if God is really going to touch our "blindness."
